Travel Notice for International Attendees

From mid-2025 (date TBC), travellers from visa-exempt countries (including the UK, US, Canada, Australia and more) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorisation before entering many European countries.

This is not a visa, but a mandatory pre-travel clearance valid for short stays.

🔗Check if you need ETIAS and learn more here

We recommend checking the official EU ETIAS page well in advance of your travel.

Travelling to Leeds

By Air

The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport (15 min uber/taxi to city center) with regular connections to Schiphol and London. However, a number of other airports have excellent train connections to Leeds and may be both cheaper and quicker. Manchester Airport is the U.K.’s second largest airport, with an hourly direct train from the airport into Leeds City Centre. Birmingham Airport and London Heathrow likewise are fairly straightforward options, with trains into Birmingham New Street or London Kings Cross, and then a direct train to Leeds.

By Train

i. If you’re travelling from (or through) Paris, Brussell’s, Lille, Antwerp, Amsterdam, or Schiphol you can get the Eurostar to London St Pancras. Walk across the street to the next-door station London Kings Cross, for a direct train to Leeds. What a pleasant way to travel!

By Boat

If you want to bring a car and do some more exploring around the UK, then perhaps you’d consider the ferry (to Eurotunnel train) from Calais to Dover, or the Rotterdamn to Hull ferry. Hull is only a 1 hr drive to from Leeds (Dover is 4hr 30 mins)

By Car / Parking

If you live more locally and plan to drive (or bringing your car from further afield) you might want to know about parking. The conference centre as some limited parking available. There is free on-street parking about a 20 mins walk away (along Hyde Park Road, Royal Park Terrance and Royal Park Avenue – don’t tell! These are Joanna’s sneaky parking spaces!)

Accommodation Options

We have reserved 100 rooms at Storm Jameson Court, the University of Leeds’ 4-star rated and eco-friendly conference accommodation.

All rooms are clean, comfortable, and en-suite, with access to a 24-hour reception desk, free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and a spacious shared lounge for socialising. Accommodation is included in the residential conference fee of £65 per night. The venue is approximately a 12-minute walk from St George’s Conference Centre.

We also have 20 fully accessible rooms available. Please let us know if you require any specific provision relating to mobility, hearing, or visual impairments.

The accommodation booking deadline has now been extended to 15 May 2026.

If you would like to stay in the conference accommodation, please ensure you book by this date.

Storm Jamieson Court also functions as student rooms in term-time and so is only able to offer single rooms. If you prefer a double-bed or a twin-room, or something more luxurious, then you will need to find accommodation elsewhere. There are numerous hotels in the city centre within a 5-10 mins walk of St George’s Conference Centre. I recommend: Radisson Blue Hotel, Leeds City Centre (nearest and probably best value for money), The Queen’s Hotel, The Met Hotel, or for cheaper options Park Plaza and easyHotel Leeds, City Centre.

Don't forget, international attendees now need a ETIAS visa to travel to the UK
